Slope with deciduous forest and lacking Rhododendron maximum are found mostly at this western end of GARI. Upslope is a small bench and above that successional tulip poplar (may grade back into oak further up?);Convex southwest aspect slope with a young oak-hickory forest. There are scattered large sawn stumps, larger trees with fire scars and mostly from stump sprouts (double trucks and oblique bases. Canopy is dominated by white oak with some hickory, and hickory is well represented in subcanopy. Herb layer is relatively rich reflecting high pH top soil.
